Making new friends is really hard. I was so bad at it as a teenager and I'm really not that much better at it now, so it's not just you, if that makes you feel any better.

[Sometimes hearing an adult sucks just as bad as you do at something is depressing, but sometimes it's validating. He's not totally sure which it'll be in this case, but it's the best new approach he's got, since he's been over most of his usual advice for this subject already.]

But you do get better at it with time, and I've found out that people rarely actually stick around out of pity. It's easy to believe that they do, but that's almost always not the case.

I'm sure you can be--and are--good at things. You're clearly good at your hobbies, and at articulating how you feel; the latter skill is a lot more unusual than you might expect.

FBI agent. Which, if the FBI doesn't exist in your world, basically means I'm a governmental police officer who usually works murder cases.

So after dealing with murderers and potentially risking getting shot or something every day, violence has really low appeal to me.

[Of course he's only telling half the story--both in terms of his job and the real reason he wants nothing to do with fighting and danger--but whatever, it's still true and relevant.]

What's the weirdest case you've ever been on? Oh, oh, strangest murder weapon? Did you ever get to meet the president?

The first one coming to mind for the weirdest was the person who ended up in a giant chocolate bar, though I wasn't an agent yet for that case, just consulting.

Most murder weapons were pretty mundane, but maybe the nail gun.

No, though I do live in Washington D.C.
